Well, here you are at the end of the beginner's tutorial in Java. By now you know how to download and install the JDK; write, compile and run Java applications and applets; and work with comments, variables, expressions and loops. Along the way you've learned some Java terms and a few things about object-oriented programming.

Congratulations! If you've come from a background with very little programming, you've come a long way, and you should be proud. The lessons you've learned here have not only built a strong base to stand on when learning Java, they have also taught you the basics of computer programming in general. At this point you can easily pick up scripting languages like JavaScript and Perl by reading books on these subjects, because the things you have learned about variables, expressions and loops are universal.
